March 21, 2014 Comments Off on Rise of the Forgeborn Preview Card: Ebonskull Knight
(Editor’s Note: This article was actually written by Raidrinn, but we didn’t quite have the time to make sure that he was the one who’s name ended up on the article, nor did we give this a thorough editing pass. Such is life when the patch hits much sooner than you expect!)
Hello everyone! Spoiler season is back and I have been given a royal gift. The purple faction has served me well in the past for awesome abilities, powerful creatures, and devastating spells. Nekrium as a faction has a tendency to have very powerful cards with interesting drawbacks that keep its effects from being overpowering. This card is no different, meet the Heroic Ebonskull Knight. Unfortunately, being at Legendary, these cards won’t have much impact on the upcoming Rise of the Forgeborn draft environment. Therefore, Kit, Noetherian, and Foxhull are excited to bring you today, a trio of upcoming Rare and Heroic cards that we believe will change the way you think about drafting Uterra. What new strategies might be available when drafting Uterra in Set 2? Find out in today’s exclusive video preview.
With draft and Uterra on our minds, Kit, Noetherian and Fox collaborate on a Set 1 draft where we assemble a very interesting mostly-Uterra deck. At the end end of the draft video, and at the end of each of the three gameplay videos, we provide exclusive previews of upcoming Rise of the Forgeborn content.
Obviously, Forge Watch isn’t the only site bringing you exclusive previews this week. Follow @Forgewatch on Twitter for tweets and re-tweets of SolForge spoilers that we find elsewhere on the Internet. Also, if you happen to miss a preview, check out Stoneblade’s spoiler gallery on the official SolForge Facebook page.
March 19, 2014 Comments Off on Rise of the Forgeborn Preview Card: Delpha, Chronosculpter
From the very earliest spoilers, one of the defining Alloyin abilities has been the power to level up additional cards. Technosmith and Synapsis Oracle were the paradigmatic examples in Set 1, with Metasight adding a spell version in the small expansion. It should come as no surprise that Rise of the Forgeborn brings us an exciting new card with a similar ability. Read More »
March 18, 2014 Comments Off on Rise of the Forgeborn Preview Card: Steelscale Dragon
I am sure the Dragons of the Nekrium, Tempys, and Uterra used to strike fear into the Alloyin Faction. Those Dragons’ natural strength would have been hard for their machines and creations to kill. Even the great Scrapforge Titan could not match their power and speed.
But Alloyin, known for their ability to adapt and evolve, decided enough was enough. They would fight Dragons with Dragons. I expect that they pooled together their resources and knowledge for the ultimate creation. I present to you the Steelscale Dragon. Read More »

January 2, 2014 Comments Off on SolForge Report 1-2-2014
Hello everyone! Welcome to a post-hangover edition of the SolForge Report. It’s been two weeks and an amazing amount of information and changes have surfaced. SolForgeGame.com gets some changes while the Drafting and Daily Rewards were revamped. Justin Gary shared their 4-round Draft proposal while John Fiorillo clarified how the system uses Silver and Gold tickets. There was a needed update on Alternate Art cards and the past, present, and future of SolForge were laid out in the latest developer article. Let’s get on with the Report!
SolForgeGame.com Website Changes
StoneBlade has been dropping hints and spoilers for their website changes for a while now and on the stream this week Kibler announced that the first of the changes are coming. First, there will be periodic articles from the developers talking about the development of SolForge. They hope this will communicate their intentions and development plans to the community better. There will also be articles from various community members talking about everything from strategy to deckbuilding. You can read more about it from their official release article.
The first Article is about the past, present, and future for SolForge. It goes over how SolForge started, where we are right now, and what features are still being worked on. If you’ve ever had questions about what is being added to the game, make sure to read it. Head over to SolForgeGame.com and check it out!
Drafting and Daily Reward Changes
The patch had some changes to the Daily Rewards and Drafting Rewards that fluctuated without notification from StoneBlade as the weekend hit. The Draft Rewards were lowered while everyone had a large increase in Tournament Tickets from their Daily rewards. With how varied the tournament rewards were, many people found themselves losing tickets much faster than they thought with winning records. The community immediately took notice of this and the forums were quickly filled with questions and concerns. To address this, Justin Gary asked around the community for input and revamped the reward system. They evened out the rate of Draft Tickets from Daily Rewards and standardized a base reward system that lets you “go infinite” in Draft and Constructed tournaments by having at least an alternating win record of 2-1 and 3-0. They also added a guaranteed premium pack to all 3-0 winners. For the complete list of changes and Justin Gary’s full message, see the spoiler below!.
We’ve gotten a lot of feedback in from all of you on prize payouts for tournaments, and while we aren’t ready to implement a 4 round system yet (I floated an idea about this in a previous thread), we do have an update planned for tonight that I think balances out the many concerns that go into this system.
We are continuing to make modifications and take feedback, but we wanted to get an update up quickly that will keep people excited about playing in events.
Payouts are transparent and easily understood
3-0 Records are guaranteed a Premium Pack in both formats!
All Players are guaranteed at least a Normal Pack in Prizes
Players consistently going 2-1 and 3-0 can “go infinite”
Players with worse records can still play often thanks to daily rewards
Many of you might have noticed that we had a greatly increased rate of event tickets in daily rewards over the weekend. This was something we instituted to help people kickstart tournaments after the release. This will be ending tonight, but players that complete all their daily rewards will still be getting multiple tickets per week. This gives everyone an opportunity to play in tournaments on a regular basis regardless of finish.
We will continue to listen to feedback and collect data over the next few weeks and review our options in the new year. In the meantime, I wish everyone a happy holiday and happy drafting!
Tournament Prize Payouts
Three Wins – 9 Event Tickets and a Premium Booster Pack
Two Wins – 5 Event Tickets and a Normal Booster Pack
One Win – 3 Event Tickets and a Normal Booster Pack
Zero Wins – Normal Booster Pack
Three Wins – 4 Event Tickets and a Premium Booster Pack
Two Wins – 2 Event Tickets and a Normal Booster Pack
One Win – 1 Event Tickets and a Normal Booster Pack
Zero Wins – Normal Booster Pack
4 Round Draft Proposal
Also, in response to the community feedback, Justin Gary announced that the StoneBlade team was thinking about raising the rounds in Draft to 4. In his proposal on the forums, Justin talked about how they wanted to be more transparent about changes and wanted community feedback. You can view the complete proposal in the spoiler below.
I hope that everyone has been having fun with the new patch. I and the team are very proud of the tournaments/drafting feature, iphone functionality, the 24 new cards and the many more improvements and bug fixes that released this week.
As some of you know, there has been a lot of debate about the prizing for our tournament structure as well as on the proper number of rounds that players should get to play during a tournament. We have been listening and collecting data and are continuing to tweak the systems (e.g. we increased payouts in our constructed tournaments on Friday).
We are trying to make an experience that is fun for everyone, whether you are a top player or new to the tournament scene. We want everyone to be able to earn free cards, play in drafts for free, and to have a great time doing it. After listening to the community, here are our proposals
1. We will be more transparent with our rewards- we shouldn’t hide what you can get and we shouldn’t make massive changes without telling you. This philosophy is why I am making this post- we want to hear community feedback before implementing another change to the payout system.
2. I believe we need to add an extra round to draft tournaments. This gives people more gaming for their dollar and also lets us give more exciting rewards to the top players without having to cripple our rewards to the many players who enjoy draft but don’t expect to win very often.
Under this system, we would have guaranteed rewards (listed below) with a chance for “bonus” rewards as random upgrades.
4-0 Record = 10 Tickets + Premium Pack
3-1 Record = 7 Tickets + 2 Normal Packs
2-2 Record = 3 Tickets + 1 Normal Pack
1-3 Record = 1 Ticket + 1 Normal Pack
0-4 Record = Normal Pack
In addition, each record will have a small chance of bonus tickets/packs, but the bonuses will be weighted towards the lower tiers.
There are a lot of things I like about this Players with a winning record can continue to play in drafts without having to buy more tickets (and the 4-0s get a premium pack to boot!) but even the 0-4 record gets a lot of value for their entry fee (if you include the cards you draft, you get more cards than you would get from an equivalent price of normal booster packs).
What do you guys think? We are listening…
On the Stream and the new Article, alternate artwork was spoiled as coming out very soon. Here is a preview of an alternate art Graveborn Glutton!
The SolForge Weekly Stream will no longer be weekly. With the addition of periodic developer articles on the official website, Kibler said they felt a weekly stream would not be needed as much. Any streams will be announced ahead of time so people can prepare to watch them.
Invites for the closed Beta of SolForge on Android devices have already gone out to a randomized group pulled from the people who filled out their survey. Kibler stated that they would be expanding it in the near future, so don’t feel left out yet!
For the Holidays, Premium Packs are 20% off and everyone received a free Draft Coupon! You can check out the official announcement here.
Single cards will be going on sale in the Store in the very near future. There will be a different card every day with the newest cards going on sale first. There is no word on what the price structure will be. Kibler hinted that this is just the initial release of this system and that it is not final.
There was some concern about how the system used Silver and Gold tickets since we can’t see which are which. John Fiorillo answered the question in this thread saying that the system uses them intelligently and will use 1 Gold ticket, if it’s available, then as many Silver tickets as it can before using Gold again. This will probably be a lot more clear once they upgrade the UI so you can see the tickets separately.
The Forge Watch Invitational is coming! Preliminary matches will commence Jan 10-12 featuring some of the top constructed players in SolForge. The Top 8 will then battle it out on Jan 18 for a chance at 25,000 Gold and becoming a permanent fixture in the SolForge universe. Check out our Tournament section to find out specific times and streams if you want to watch the action.
December 27, 2013 Comments Off on Raidrinn Reviews: 24 Additional Cards
StoneBlade has given us a most excellent gift of 24 new cards to shake up a very stale constructed metagame. This timely update has come at a momentous time as well. It’s just three weeks till the Forge Watch Invitational and I (along with everyone else who qualified) are busy scrambling to find the most broken pile of cards possible. What better way to start the testing process than to mercilessly judge these new cards and attach an arbitrary rating on to them.
0 Unplayable: These are hilariously bad cards that you would never want to include in a constructed deck. Example: Nexus Core (Hunting Pack)
1 Niche: These aren’t necessarily bad cards, but you won’t see them used that often. Usually have an ability that few decks would want or need. Example: Oxidon Spitter
2 Playable: The bread and butter of most decks. Example: Magma Hound
3 Staple: These are the powerful build around cards of the format. Most often, you’ll see full playsets in decks whenever they can be fit. Example: Epidemic
4 All-Star: The best cards of the set, these are cards that will be played for a long time to come. Example: Zimus, The Undying Read More »

Here is what StoneBlade has said they are working on for the next update:
Crafting – Kibler stated on the stream that there has already been a bunch of work done on this and we should be hearing more details relatively soon.
Chatting/Interacting with your Opponent – They added a Chat button on the PC client version to help people communicate more but they do want ways of interacting with your opponent. There are currently no details on this yet.
Single Card Purchases/Website Update – These are tied together and they are currently working on this. Kibler said they think this will be done before the next major update.
Leaderboard/Competitive Play – This is something that Kibler said we should be hearing about in the near future.
Silver Cost for Drafting
Originally, there was never an indication that you would be allowed to purchase Tournament Tickets for Constructed or Tournament Play. As a surprise, StoneBlade added the ability to purchase tickets for the cost of 40K Silver. Many people thought this was very steep and Kibler responded to such a thread on the official forums. Here is what he had to say:
Silver ticket prices are tricky, because they are a balancing act with a lot of other factors. Right now all you’re seeing is the cost of buying in to a draft from ground zero with silver only. There are quite a few other ways to get tickets within the system, including your daily rewards and tournament prizes.
Our tournament payouts are very generous. You are guaranteed to receive more than enough tickets to enter another tournament if you go undefeated, in addition to other prizes, and you have a good chance of receiving enough tickets to play again for free with a 2-1 result. You also get some number of tickets back, along with other prizes, for one or zero wins. You also keep all of the cards that you draft, in addition to your prizes.
We recognize that silver prices for tickets appear high, but when you look at the fact that you will never have to purchase the full seven tickets after your first event (since you even get a ticket back for zero wins), the total cost of the draft experience is much lower than it looks.
Many people are trying to gather data about the averages for the different rewards. I would head to the official forums and Reddit to report your findings and help us make better informed feedback.
The Tempys Legendary was shrouded in mystery leading up to the patch. Tempys needed another aggressive creature and it looks like this is it. And, before you ask, he can attack more than twice if you cast multiple spells in one turn. This makes him good in combo decks involving the recently changed Lightning Brand. This is a card I am hoping to get soon and I hope you are as excited as I am about it!
Want to see a full card spoiler? We recently posted a complete card list with pictures here.
There will be some sort of Holiday Promotion for SolForge but currently there are no details. Stayed tuned to all the SolForge news channels of communication so you don’t miss it!
The official SolForge FAQ was updated with the patch and now contains information about Tournaments as well. If you have questions about SolForge I would suggest reading it first.
